Facing a mid-year budget squeeze. the Rappahannock County School Bourd is considering a now round of spending cuts in anticipation of reductions in state education fundi 11c
Virginia Gov. Timothy Kaine warned lust month that state tax revenues are falling far short of his optimistic budget projections for the current fiscal year, necessitating cuts in state spending in ail areas, including education. But Kaine has not yet revealed how deep he will have to cut state spending or where the cuts will fall.
Expecting a reduction in state aid. School Superintendent Robert Chappell told the School Bourd Tuesday evening that be has drawn up a list of possible spending cuts for the board to consider. Chappell said he and the board’s Finance Committee “talked about five or six potential areas for trying to save money without having a significant impact on classroom instruction."
