The Eleventh Annual Taste of Rappahannock, a fundraiser for Headwaters. Rappahannock County’s Public Education Foundation, was a spectacular success despite tears that winds and rain from Tropical Storm Hanna would spoil the event.

Some 330 guests, many wearing rubber barn boots, attended the dinner and auction at Belle Meade Schoolhouse in Sperryville Saturday night. In the wake of a seemingly miraculous 4 p.m. change in the storm’s predicted course, the mood was one of elation, as the late-altemuon sun illuminated a crystalline mountain panorama through porting clouds.
