The seller is riding instructor Debbie Craig, who was recently widowed. Torrence told the crowd that Craig could not be present because she is “in the hospital facing surgery for cancer."
The auction firm revealed that the top bidder - calling in her bids over the telephone
was identified as one Trenita Jackson-Stewart of Virginia Beach.
Reached by phone an hour after the sale by the Rappahannock News, Jackson-Stewart said only that she was “not allowed to say anything.” The telephone number appears to be that of a law linn in Virginia Beach.
Craig and her husband, Walter, opened Lantern Lane Farm in 1995 to give riders a “fun” place to learn and vacation. Over the years she conducted riding clinics at the farm, provided riding vacations and conducted dressage clinics.
In 2005, she and her husband sold the charming 1840s colonial house and 15 acres mid retained 10 acres and built a plantation-style house and a new bam. Craig’s husband died a year ago this month.
