For city dwellers, Memorial Day may mark the start of summer. But for local folks, it just isn’t summer until the colors of a traveling carnival light up the night sky.
The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department held its annual carnival and parade this past weekend.
It was a perfect evening for the several hundred viewers that lined Route 522 from the Sperryville Cemetery north to Main Street and then on Route 211 west to the fire hall and carnival grounds.
The parade stepped off at 7 p.m., with more than 60 entries participating including fire and rescue equipment from Rappahannock and surrounding counties and as far away as Fairfax County.
