The Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office recently assigned three new road deputies: • Andy Berry, 24, of Washington. Berry is a graduate of Rappahannock High School, and was hired by the Sheriff's Office in December of 1997. • Mark Currence, 27, of Flint Hill. A graduate of Lord Fairfax Community College, Currence was hired as a jailer in February, 1997 and selected last fall to become a road deputy. • J.C. Welch, 23, of Sperryville. Welch was hired Jan. 4. He has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from Radford University, and would like to pursue a Master’s degree in Forensic Science. The new deputies are all natives of the county. They graduated from the academy on May 7.
The proposed move of Rappahannock Chiropractic Services to a location just west of Washington took another step toward becoming reality at the May meeting of the Board of Zoning Appeals. All members were present, including two new members. Bob Harrema was recently appointed to fill the seat vacated by Martin Woodard, and Bob Weinberg was appointed to fill the seat previously held by the late Sid Gottlieb. Also present was County Administrator John McCarthy.
