Every newscast these days has a story about a new disease, many carried by insects or ticks. West Nile Virus, Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever make going outside a bit more treacherous than ever before.
Ticks are a pest that continue to cause concern “Deer' ticks promote the spread of Lyme Disease that, untreated, can cause lifelong neurological problems. Ticks also vector Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, ehrlichiosis, and babesiosis. Bartlett has a program of tick control based on inspections, barrier treatments, cultural practices and other methods to target tick populations. The basic rule of thumb is to remember that ticks are easily reduced by properly timed barrier sprays. It also helps to remove brush and woodpiles, dear around stone walls, prune and trim to increase sunlight and air circulation (ticks don't like dry, sunny areas), reduce habitats for any rodent populations and deter deer visitations.
