The Rappahannock County Benevolent Fund, the county’s Social Services Department and the Area Agency on Aging have been working together to get a food pantry in Rappahannock.
The pantry, which opened June 2, is located at the old Senior Center site on Mt. Salem Avenue in Washington.
The pantry stocks nonperishable items from the food bank in Warrenton, canned goods, day-old bread, and frozen meats, plus fresh fruits, vegetables, and eggs donated by Plant-a-Row gardeners in Rappahannock County. The pantry is staffed by Fauquier Community Action’s Mimi Forbes and by Plant-a-Row volunteers.
Volunteers can drop off donated items oil Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11:30 a.m., and on Saturdays from 9 -10 a.m.. Residents can pick up food from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information about the pantry call Mimi Forbes at 540-675-1177.
