Caroline Massie, a senior at Rappahannock County High School, was one of 12 students selected from 20 Virginia high schools to receive an award May 28 by the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) for outstanding achievement and community involvement.
As a local cooperative, REC recognizes the importance of community involvement and student achievement. With the creation of its Literacy Education and Rural Networking or LEARN scholarship program in 1996, the cooperative began rewarding local students who excelled in these two areas.
This spring REC awarded 12 of the $1,000 LEARN scholarships to students who are seeking to advance their education beyond the high school level.
