The evening’s main event, the draw down raffle, combines the excitement and tension of a TV game shpw with audience participation — sort of a country-fried cross between a lottery and “Deal or No Deal.”
In the draw down, each ticket has an assigned number. All 150 numbers are posted on a big board on stage, and as numbers are drawn at random, they are pulled off the board — those folks are the losers. Tension builds as the draw down winds down to the last 10 uncalled numbers. The holders of those 10 numbers are called to sit up on the stage, and that’s where feelings of greed clash with the sentiment of sharing.
The 10 finalists may split the grand prize, awarding $500 to each — but only if all 10 agree to that. As the audience hollers “Go for it,” unanimous agreement to share is rare. As additional numbers are pulled, the remaining contestants have more chances to split or go for the whole enchilada. This often continues on
