Oct. 17,18 Apple Butter Time: Members of the Rappahannock County Lions Club have been busy lately in an annual ritual of autumn, the making of apple butter to be sold to raise funds for the Lions’ community projects. Volunteers cut up 50 bushels of Rappahannock County apples and cooked up nearly 1,300 jars of the delicious spread at an old World War II era community cannery in Keezletown, Va. Above, from left, Lions Larry Grove, Jim Manwaring, Frank Raiter and R. C. Garcia tend the cooking kettles and prepare ingredients. Lions will be selling apple butter on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rappahannock Co-op, and on the corner across from the Country Cafe in the Town of Washington on Saturday (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Sunday, Oct. 18 (noon to 4 p.m.)
