Gregory Monahan of Thermopylae has been appointed to Rappahannock s Board of Zoning Appeals. Monahan said he was notified of the appointment Oct. 6 n a letter from Judge Shore Robertson, who interviewed candidates for the position Oct. 4. Monahan has owned and managed his own construction business, Monecs Co., since 1972. The business was begun in Washington, D C., and moved to Rappahannock when Monahan moved to the county in 1973. Babysitters learned more about the important job they do during an after-school babysitting program sponsored by 4-H and Rappahannock’s extension service. The program was conducted Sept 24.25, and 26 at the elementary school. Participants were: Sheri Kidwell, of Castleton, Heidi Maeyer, Sperryville, f Rhonda Kidwell, Rose Kidwell, Melissa Lemon, and Love Wynkoop of Boston. Rappahannock’s Board of Supervisors met in executive session Oct 5 follow ing a public meeting to take input on the county’s compliance with federal guidelines in regard to the handicapped. “Be more positive. Have an awareness." That was one message Debra Jo Combs of Amissville left Oct. 5 with members of Rappahannock’s Board of Supervisors. The mother of a handicapped child, Mrs. Combs was one of two county residents who spoke during a public meeting supervisors held to garner input from citizens regarding county services to the handicapped.
