Miss Anne Lucille Dwyer, of Sperryville, was named for foreign service by the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board at its semiannual meeting in Richmond today* She will go to the Board’s newest ■ mission area, the Gaza strip, now under the military control of Egypt, where she will be a nurse in a hospital which Southern Baptists have just taken over from another religious group. The hospital is located in the midst of 300,000 Arab<refugees,
Miss Dwyer was born on a farm near Sperryville. She was graduated from Sperryville High School; attended Strayer’s Business College, Washington, D. G» and Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tenh.; add received the B.A. degree from Howard College* Birmingham, Ala., and the R.N. from Mather School of Nurs^ ing, Southern Baptist Hospital, New Orleans, La. She is now studying at; New Orleans Baptist_Theological Seminary, -Her—working—experiencfr_iftctudes— positions as clerk and typist in the| War Department Office and as general office worker at a life in$ surance company, Washington, D. C.; floor supervisor, Southern Baptist Hospital; nurse at Physicians Hospital, Warrenton, Va., the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, and Cumberland University; and summer mission worker in New Orleans under the Southern Baptist. She told the Board that a Christian* family she met while working in Washington, D. C., was influential in her decision to accept Christ asr Saviour. “In every respect it was an about-face for me,” she said. She dedicated her life to full-time} Christian service during a revival meeting. “My call includes the impact of au the past,” she stated, “A gradual growth in seeing the needs— and realizing my ability to meet the need has helped bring me thus far.” The April appointments brought the Board’s overseas staff to 932. Of the group of 20, four will go to Nigeria; four to Indonesia; two to Thailand; two to Southern Rhodesia; two to Brazil; two as the first direct, appointments to die Bahama Islands; one to Jordan; one to Paraguay; one to Japan; and one as the first direct appointment to Gaza. Four of the 20 are nurses and one is a> medical doctor. Six of the eight men have served in the armed forces.
