Retained was the 4-year-old tax levy of $2 per $100 on property and public utilities. It was last boosted in 1950, from $1.80.
The new $465,000 school operating budget, which will provide for meeting the State’s minimum teacher salary scale, actually shows an increase over the current fiscal year of $32,181 but most of the additional revenue will come from the State.
For instance, in holding the county on the scale the State will put up an increase of some $13,000. The county’s added share amounts to about $3,000. .
Most salaries arje included in the school budget item labeled "day instruction costs,” and this shows a . $28,375 increase—to $341,175—over, the 12-month period which ends June 30.
Other Cosjs to Climb
Other portions of the school budget also will climib. Pupil transportation will jump from about $73,000 to about $75,000. Operating school plants will cost about $2,485 more, and maintenance (repair and upkeep) about $1,600 more.
Proceeds from Louisa's $2 tax rate are apportioned among all county departmental activities as authorized by the supervisors.
The school board requested $195,191 in county tax revenue to operate next fiscal year and was granted $184,537. The current appropriation is $183,709. -
