The specter of a milk surplus becomes more real as the spring grazing season approaches.
R. G. Connelly, dairy husbandman at VPI, says positive steps must be taken to cope with a growing milk surplus and lower prices. <One measure he suggests is herd culing. It is a direct method for dealing with milk surpluses. As the average production per cow is built up, culling must be more rigid _In the present dairy situation, with more milk than is currenty needed Ir*~~ most markets, inefficient, low-producing cows should be culled from the herd. The feed, labor and time thus saved might be used profitably .on fewer but more efficient cows.
