Virginians Warned
On Barn Painters
Proceed with caution when hiring traveling painters. .
That’s the warning that went out to Virginians yesterday from the State Agriculture Department
Seems some of the itinerants have been painting the buildings of some luckless citizens with crankcase oil.
About this time of year, the department said, several of the groups arrive in the State from joints south.
They—a spokesman called them gypsies—solicit painting jobs which usually are done with spray apparatus.
-In most cases it’s done with a cheap paint that has not been approved by the “Agriculture Department'F’chemical division.
Sometimes the roving painters don’t even use paint. There have been times when they used crankcase oil mixed with aluminum paint.
After it rained on a newly painted buiding—no paint.
If the painters are caught using unapproved paint, they can be fined up to $500 and sentenced to a year in. jail.
Marble Guess Nets $8 The Marble Guess contest introduced by Mrs. Wade H. Massie Jr., netted for the Ladies Auxiliary to the Washington Fire Company, a total of $8.13. Mrs. C. T. Bruce and Miss Alice Wood were joint winners of the guessing game, with guesses of 500—five hundrd and three marbes were'in the jar. Each winner was awarded a box of lucious home made candy.
