“The funds raised in this crusade will help medical scientists seek the unknown causes of cancer. Strong support by each of our communities can mean greater progress in detection and advances in the cure of this disease. More lives can be saved and painful illness, checked if the public gets behind*.this drive,” the. chairman said. Work done by the Virginiaa Division of the American Cancer Society towards this end will be publicized through April, Perkins added. Proceeds of the Virginia Crusade will b6 used for the American Cancer Sociej ty’s three-point program of research, public education and community service.
“Facts and figures proye the importance of this work,” stressed the campaign chairman. “Deaths from , cancer in Virginia last year numbered 3,487, according to the State Department of Health. Many of these were children between the pges of 3 and IS years. This enemy claims! people of all ages and from all walks of life. Our big job is to -strike back at cancer; help find its cause and cure. This we can do by giving generously to the 1954 Cancer Crusade.”
The organizing committee for this year’s drive has worked but many interesting features for Cancer Control Month. Newspaper articles, radio and TV, magazines, billboards, and •motion pictures will reach into evefy area with the campaign message. ; Civic organizations and women’s dubs are assisting in all towns and counties, and merchants are cooperating with Cancer workers, displaying
