T/Sgt. Maury W. Brown, Jr., a non-commissioned officer assigned to the 839th Civ. Engr. Sq., has been selected as Airman of the Year for 1963 at Stewart Air Force Base, Smyrna, Tenn. Born in Sperryviile, Va. August 26, 1929, the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Brown, he entered the Air Force at Camp Lee, Va. in 1948, and has seen continuous service since that date. Sgt. Brown was selected top NCO at Stewart because of his overall worth to the Air Force as demonstrated during his past years of service and his outstanding contributions for the past two years at Stewart, In 1954, Sgt. Brown was commended by the Strategic Air Command commander, the commander of Northeastern Air Command and the Danish government for his efforts in keeping Thule AB, Greenland, free erf snow and ice around the clock in support of SAC’s global mission. ^Reassigned to the Holloman Air Development Center in 1954, he was involved in the testing and recovery of groundto-air missiles, development of the high-speed rocket test sled and testing for the National Safety Council. His next tour of duty took him to Tachikawa AB, Japan.
