Vegetation control in young apple orchards, a practice recommended by Extension Horticulturist, and accepted by fruit growers has now be* come more safe, effective, and less time consuming through the use of chemicals which are, with reasonable precaution, safe to man and harmless to our wildlife. Excellent control of all exist ing vegetation at the experimental apple planting locadkf on the C. E, Johnson, Jr. farm near Sperryville, with the exception of trumpet vlnq was accomplished. George Williams, Associate Extension Horticulturist of the Winchester Fruit Research Labor atory applied chemicals May 6 Mr. Williams used a mixture of 1/2 pound Dalapon and 1/4 pound each of Amino Triazole and Slmazlne in five gallons of water. One batch treated an area S"-6m wide and 504’ long.
