Elects Officers
The Rappahannock County Historical Society held its first meeting after being incorporated by the State Corpo* ation Commission Friday evening at the Court House in Washington. The main order of business was to elect officers and a Board of Directors. The officers who had been serving on a temporary basis were elected for a year and five of them were elected to act as Directors for one year. The officers and Directors so named are E. M. Jones, Presr dent; Mrs. Mary Botts Quaintance, Vice-President; Robert L. Brown, Treasurer; Mrs. John S. Browning, Secretary; Willliam M. Carrigan, Coordinator.
Mrs. Lucille Etter of Alexandria was among the new members present. She has done a lot of research and is a specialist on the Calvert family and Horseshow Farm history. Some committee reports were made and it is hoped that the committees on churches and schools and also on mills will be activated during the summer. The Society authorized the purchase of a book called * Life of the Rev. James Ireland" and a copy of the first Baptist Register which tell of the founding of the first Baptist church in the county. These will be placed on the Historical shelf at the Rappahannock Library.
