Sperryville Fire Department acclaimed its annual fund raising carnival last week a great success, andsaidpresident Robert Estes, “Attendance was better than ever before. Fortune smiled on us Thursday and the parade came off smoothly under clear skies after a rainy afternoon. An account of the gross proceeds is not yet complete." Miss Edna Bayne of Woodville was crowned queen of the gala event on Friday night. Lonesome George, a radio personality of Luray, officiated at the coronation. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Kilby, who were in charge of the food stand, reported increased sales this year. The stand had been enlarged to double the ori ginal size for more efficient service, which certainly paid off. Said Mrs. Kilby, “I don’t know how we got along in the old stand." Officers of the fire company, along with residents of the area, expressed gratitude to all for the fine attendance, contributions of food, generous aid of workers, and all other help received in any manner. Prize winners Saturday night were: grand prize, a '65 Ford Fairlane, Sonny Anderson, Sperryville; $50 Savings Bone} J. E. Wayland, Sperryville; $25 Savings Bond, Haywood
