MIST ON THE MOUNTAIN Mist billows over the mountain, Billows and covers its blueness; Mists of mauve drift in the morning. Drifts of vapor, and floating fog

Cover it with mist. Mystery hides in the mountain, Hovers over the campfire, Covers the cave with his rifle; Berries and deer for his hunger. Alone in what deep of that shadow,

A match for the dark. What exile in his youth and strength, What vagabond, king or rebel, What peon or son of the river,

Feasts in the firelight

And silently keeps watch? Mystery covers the mountain, Covers the e«v€ and the hollow. What fire in the heart of that blueness,

Fire struck from stone,

Turns granite to gold? Silver sheets of falling raindrops. Rain in the hollows; Silver tear-drops in the tree-tops, Fall in veins of light. Floating vapor, and fleeting fog, Billowing mists on the mountain; Silver streaks of shining raindrops, Fall in veins of light.
