Individual plants can be watered directly from a hose laid on the ground. Build a ridge of soil around the tomato plant... about 18 inches in radius and 2 to 3 inches high. Let the water from the hose trickle in. Fill three to four times. Sufficient water is especially important during July and August when the plants are full of fruit... and there may be little rainfall.
County News Susan Payne of Sperryville, and Roger Cordani of Amissville are at 4-H Conservation Camp at Virginia Beach this week. Along with fun in the sun and ocean, they will be taking classes in conservation of natural resources. The State Federation Meeting for the Home Demonstration Clubs will be held July 27 through 29 at V.P.I in Blacksburg.
All County Home Demonstration Club members who plan to attend the meeting should contact the Extension office by Friday, July 23, to arrange for transportation.

Mrs. Lily Barber returned to her home on Saturday after spending several months With Dr. and Mrs. Alfred Armstrong in Williamsburg. She was accompanied by the Armstrongs who remained for a few days visit. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fisher; of Arlington were guests of Mrs. Fisher’s father W. A. Dulaney and sister Miss Merle Dulaney for several days last week. Mrs. Joseph Hawkins is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Butler.
