Hints If you plan to freeze a cake, be sure you use pure vanilla. Synthetic vanilla may give an off-flavor to frozen cake. Keep eggs cold at all times. Ups and downs in temperature cause egg whites to become thin. Keep your tomato plants well watered during dry periods. The U. S. Department of Agriculture suggests you water whenever it hasn’t rained for a week or 10 days. Then, be sure you water well... until the soil is moistened 12 to 18 inches down or more. It’s best, says scientists at USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, to use furrow type irrigation in vegetable gardens if the soil is not too sandy. Make a 2 to 3 inch furrow between the rows and run water slowly from garden hose until soil is thoroughly soaked.
