Forestry Judging
Team Places Second
The Rappahannock County High School forestry judging team placed second in federation competition held October .15 on Red Oak Mountain. Placing first was Loudoun County High School team. The Rappahannock team is composed of Dickie Deal, Duane Williams and Wayne Deal, and is under the instruc tion of F. S. Boze, Vo-Ag teacher at the school. County Forrester Raymond Johnson of Woodville had also assisted the boys with training and on the spot judging. Points for judging were tree volume, tree identification, timber improve ment-, determining tree value and woodland management. The Rappahannock team chalked up a total score of 607 while winning Loudoun pro duced 900 points. Dickie Deal was high individual of the local team with 282 points though the scoring was close. The Northern Triangle Feder ationTin addition to Rappaharj* nock and Loudoun, is compos^ ed of James Wood, Loudoun Valley and Clarke county high schools, and all were represented in the contest. All teams showed improvement over the preceding year when a total of 800 points con stituted a winning score in the federation judging. William Vernam, State Forre ster, of Warrenton, was in charge of the contest and talli ed the scores.
Rummage Sale at Chester Gap
There will be a combined Rummage Sale and Bake Sale held Saturday, November 5, from 10 o'clock on, at the Chester Gap Fire Hall. Any donations of used clothing will be appreciated and may be left at Chester Gap Post Office The proceeds will be used for the shrubbery fund for landscaping the fire hall grounds.
