Lancaster started his government career with the public Roads Administration in 1940 and was with that agency until his military service began. He entered the service of Shenandoah as a seasonal worker in 1962, alternating as a park ranger and fire control aid until 1964, when he received his permanent appointment as a park ranger. He was promoted last year and again this year to his present position as sub-district ranger at Big Meadows.
