eating costs rather than food prices. There is so much more than food involved in that can of corn, that cake mix, or even that bunch of grapes. We are paying costs of eating rather than a price for food. What are some of these eating costs you are paying? Food itself is, of course, one; but, on the average, this takes less than 40 percent of the money you pay. In addition to this, you are paying people to process, to transport, to trim, to handle and package it. You are paying for buildings to house it for you until you want it. A little cost is included for use of a parking lot to make buying it easier. A pretty good part of that price is a tax cost--real estate, inventory, personal property and other taxes.
