Calling the Bible an "exploded book,” Voltaire predicted that it would be extinct in 100 year8, but continuing demands by the world’s exploding population keep the Bible atop the best-seller list, In urging local residents to participate in the 23rd annual Worldwide Bible Reading pro gram of the American Bible Society from Thanksgiving through Christmas, the Rev. Charles Glaenzer of Trinity -Episcopal Church pointed out that 20 million persons took part in the Society's Worldwide Bible Reading program In 1965. "Today — less than 200 years since Voltaire's death at least one Book of the Bible Is available in 1,250 languages and dialects to help meet the spiritual hunger of millions, including new literates, in the world's emerging nations. By reading the same preselected Scripture portion each day, a spiritual bond is forged between Christians in many lands of the earth,” Mr. Glaenzer said. Close to 300 million such bookmarks have been distributed by the ABS since 1943. They are available at the local churches of Flint Hill, Sperryville and Washington, Va.
