With the Health Department as the responsible agent for finding tuberculosis, screening X-rays were conducted in six counties. TB volunteers and staff, as co-partners, performed the necessary duties except furnishing the medical personnel and equipment and follow-up of patients. Cooperating with Health Departments and schools, tuberculin clinics were held in the city of Winchester a,nd Page County. In Fauquier and Loudoun the county’s share for a public health nurse was authorized by . jthe association from special funds to find tuberculosis among personal contacts. With Health Education as the organization’s objective: Over 152,000 Health Adventures were distributed to 79 elementary schools, 93 industries received monthly health materials, six area schools participated in publishing TB and RD facts in school papers and Scholarships were awarded to four teachers to study in health workshops. The news media gave excellent support in a year-around self-health program directed to the public.

To reach and help those sick with respiratory diseases, six beginning nursing scholarships were awarded. Guidance counselors were furnished a directory of nearby nursing schools. Talks and technical books were given to practical nurse and nurses aides classes. The need for sufficient public health nurses was stressed. Assistance was given to patients in need, through emergency X-ray, transportation, pajamas, laundry and incidental funds and Christmas remembrances. Interest ed physicians wee supplied with booklets for their patients with emphysema. The president said “The Christmas Seal Campaign grossed $39,506.53 in the area and we are more than gratefiil to the 761 volunteers who gave 3519 hours and furnished community leadership. They are the most important ingredient of our association." “Our staff of three full-time and one part-time persons has been effective in correlating and directing the program determined by our board of directors."
