The presentation of a check for $1,500 to the AmissviUe Fire Company from the ladies auxiltary of that community highlighted the annual banquet held Friday evening in the fire hall. Mrs. A. C. Latham, treasurer of the Auxiliary, presented the contribution to Fire Chief Braxton James. The fire department also received a check for $100 from the Amissville Ruritan Club with Robert B. Settle making the presentation.
Approximately 115 firemen and guests attended the banquet which is prepared and served to the Amissville fire and rescue squad personnel, visiting firemen and rescue squadsmen, visiting auxiliaries and other guests by the Auxiliary. The old Virginia ham and turkey with the trimmings was exceptionally good and seemingly enjoyed judging by the empty platters.
Ralph Rowzie was toastmaster, with his usual wit and banter. He introduced guests and Chief James introduced visiting fire and rescue squadsmen and auxiliary representatives. Mrs. Russell Hackley, president of the Amissville Ladies Auxiliary, welcomed the group and Rev. W. A. Layman gave the invocation.
