Rehabilitation
Rep. John 0. Marsh, Jr., said in Front Royal, Sunday that “an effective program of public safety in the United States comprises not only law enforcement, prompt justice and public support for the agencies of law, but also an understanding that time in prison is going to be unpleasant, and is to be avoided as the plague”.
“By this, I do not mean that we should go backward in time to the inhumane treatment of the prisons of past days, but I do believe that going to prison should involve harder work that the transgressor was accustomed to do on the outside- and it should be useful work,” the 7th j District Congressman said.
Marsh spoke at the Golden Anniversary celebration of Rockingham Unit 27, American Legion Auxiliary, at the Belle Meade Restaurant here.
