The Rappahannock County Educational Association, following a business meeting, has presented a salary scale to the School Board. This scale was the result of the majority vote of the teacher’s organization and was based on years of experience. It ranged from a low of $6400 to a high of $9113.23, taken in twelve steps.
Also presented for consideration were three other proposals ranging from a low of $6100 to a high of $8418, the latter using 14 steps rather than 12.
Board of Supervisor members realized that Rappahannock must be more competative and that the metropolitan area will affect this area more each year. The Board also was aware of the good relation with teachers. However, i no direct action was taken, for ; most supervisors felt they would want to discuss all aspects of this > with constituents.
Considering figures of the new assessment completed this year and the present tax levy a projected budget total could be visualized. Also to be considered would be increases in other school personnel salary and school operating expenses on the increase.
