Consider our secondary roads today. Could they be made straight-er? I think a tree is one of God’s most beautiful creations, but it is an ominous thing when it is in the edge of the road; especially in icy weather.
Another thing that should be corrected is the snow clearance. When the ^nowplow (?) makes a pass in the snow, why should it return in the same pass. Rather let the return pass be on the opposite side of road so as to widen clearance. After all, even on secondary roads cars meet occasionally, then something has to give.
From a spiritual point of view, a good road has an aesthetic quality that is lacking in roads that are rutty, too narrow and altogether difficult to travel. On a good road you arrive at your destination in a better frame of mind, more at peace with the world, and more appreciative of the people that make such roads possible.
