Rappahannock News Washington. Va. [Xar Sir: I would like to suggest to Rep. John O. Marsh, jr. that he become a little more familiar with the facts about marijuana.
In your newspaper issue of Feb. 13, 1969 you reported on a speech in which he sard, “The dangervjf the use of marijuana is creating a dependency on the drug and, secondly is the first step toward possible addiction to what are called ‘hard’ narcotics.” There is little or no evidence to support this claim.
For anyone who cares to take the time to read it, a very good, factual study on the use of “Pot” was made by the mayor of New York’s Committee on Marijuana. Another good source of information on “Grass” is “The Marijuana Papers” edited by Gavid Solomon, pub. by Signet, :n paperback.
The time has come to accept marijuana for what it is. a mildly stimulating and relaxing herb, without the toxic properties of ilrohol.
