the United States and to foreign countries. At the end of 1968 we had 387.13 miles of telephone pole line, 100 miles of buried telephone wires and 298 miles of pole attached wires, as well as adding 17 new public telephones.

“Over 741 new telephones have been installed during 1968, in private residences and in business establishments,” said J. B. Compton. “Tliis points up a significant trend in modem telephony,” continued J. B. Compton. “Each year we find that businessmen are relying more and more on the telephone in the conduct of their businesses. We also notice that most of today’s homes are ‘multiple phone’ residences where there are at least 2 telephones and sometimes 3 or 4.”
