Eight Races Set
For Point-to-Point
Seven horse races and Rappahannock’s unique hound race promise a full afternoon of sport, March 1, at the Rappahannock Hunt Point-to-Point Races. The course entrance is one mile south of Sperryville, on Route 522.
“We’re preparing for a big entry in the opening Pairs race,” said Edward Haggerty, Race Chairman. “This colorful race starts at 12:30. Participants will be allowed to school the week preceding the race.” For details, call the Chairman, Sperryville, Va. 987-8161.
The second race is for Juniors, */2 mile on the flat. Usually this race is divided into a section for ponies and a section for horses. Entries range from tiny Shetland racing tigers to long-on-the-leg thoroughbreds, but all riders must be under 18 years.
The third, the turf race, over 3A mile on the flat, is open to both ladies and gentlemen.
The Ladies jumping race, the Mt. Salem, is a great favorite. The girls ride hard and go like the blazes. The fifth race is the Mt.
