Fire Danger
Closes Forests
With the very dry conditions which generate extreme danger of forest fires, the Governor has proclaimed that the forests shall be closed to unauthorized use. Burning of trash and open air fires will be prohibited. This proclamation became effective at noon Tuesday and announcement will be made of its termination. According to Section 27-54.1 of the Code of Virginia, it is unlawful for any person, except the owner, owner’s authorized agent, or persons engaged in timber cutting and processing to enter or travel in wooded areas except on public highways. It is unlawful to hunt, fish, smoke, or maintain open fire within 300 feet of woodland, brushland or fields containing flammable vegetation. Maximum penalty for violation -$500 and-or 30 days in jail for each offense.
