Larger Size Families

In Rappahannock

How big is the average family in Rappahannock County? Are local families larger or smaller than those in other communities?

The question of family size, family planning and the placing of limitations on the concentration of population to keep it within manageable levels has become the subject of a national dialogue.

Biologists, ecologists and others are greatly concerned about the steady deterioration of the environment through air pollution, the piling up of waste products, the contamination of rivers and lakes and the rapid rate at which we are using up our natural resources.

As voiced by Prof. John Thomas of Stanford University, “When we can deal adequately with the people we have now, giving everyone enough food, housing, clothing, peace, love, purpose and opportunity to achieve and fulfill themselves, we can then talk about more people and larger populations-not before." In Rappahannock County, according to the current census figures, which show a population of 5,199 distributed among some 1,548 households, there is an average of 336 persons per 100 local, households.
