“We are offering a livestock marketing alternative,” said John N. Parker, director of commodities and marketing. “It is an alternative, and is not designed to disturb any market which is operating to the satisfaction of the farmer.”
Parker said the program was open only to Farm Bureau members, and the prime objective was to return to the producer the maximum share of the market price.
The program has been offered to livestock producers in Northern and Southwest Virginia counties. During May, producers in Botetourt, Bedford, Rockbridge, Nelson, Amherst, Cumberland and Louisa counties will be offered the opportunity to join the marketing association.
