Mrs. Jamieson said she was aware that this is “a period of curtailed economic growth,” but during such a time, a free public library becomes a more important factor of community life, she said. People use the library, not just to come in out of the cold, but “in hopes of getting free answers to economic problems and philosophic questions as well as for good cheap entertainment,” she said.
The number of library card members at Rappahannock’s Library has grown quickly. The circulation of books and other library materials in 1974 increased 48% over 1973; in 1973, circulation had increased 47% over 1972, Mrs. Jamieson said.
