“Virginia retail stores get replacement lids primarily from three sources—Ball Corporation; Bernardin, Incorporated; and Kerr Glass Manufacturing Corporation. The three have greatly increased their production of replacement lids. They are allocating their production to customers to assure fair distribution around the nation, and they say the quantity allocated for the year is greater than last year,” the report said.
One of the manufacturers plans to have a new lid production facility in operation soon, which should increase the supply near the actual canning season.
VDAC has been investigating the supply situation on home canning materials periodically since last summer. The current investigation is the most comprehensive. Commissioner Carbaugh stated, “The Department will continue to monitor the situation to see that Virginia receives its fair share of lids.” C
