“RAPPAHANNOCK’S free public library is being used extensively by the whole county, young, middle and old, from every district,” Mrs. Jamieson said. But she noted, in order to keep expenses to a minimum, the library is only open 30 hours a week. Rappahannock’s is the only library in Virginia not open the minimum number of hours recommended by the State Library Association. They have renewed their exception, and will allow the Rappahannock Library to be a member of the state association again next year, even though the library will only be open 30 hours a week. “They will not renew this next year,” Mrs. Jamieson said.

She noted that during the past year the library acquired and cataloged 1,450 new books, bringing the total active collection to approximately 8,000 books. One hundred and seventy-seven students participated in the library’s book review contest; and two new services were introduced—a music
