system in Virginia, me state has simply got to provide more taxing latitude to counties, or else assume a much larger burden of school financing based on something more realistic than real estate taxes. Many taxing experts still feel that income taxes, based on earnings (and, naturally, with as few “loop.holes” as can be devised), are the fairest way of raising money for all public projects.
It certainly isn’t fair to tax an important segment of our population — farmers — out of business, just to provide for the often inflated notions (and inflated bureaucracies) of local school systems, and those who mindlessly equate “quality education” with “more money.”□
