“Hickory Wind” is among groups scheduled to appear at the Valley of Virginia Folklife Festival at Lord Fairfax Community College, Sunday afternoon, May 18. This Washington, D.C. based group performs predominantly old-timey mountain string band music.
Other musical performances will be given by the “Cedar Creek String Band,” a local group from Strasburg; Ralph Lee Smith, a dulcimer and harmonica player; Helen Schneyer, a folksinger and the past president of the Folklore Society of Greater Washington; Aubrey Smith and TheDixieliners, an old time string band from Arlington; Reed Martin, back by demand with his banjo playing and a collection of old string musical instruments; Peggy Dyson-Cobb, a local autoharp player and folk singer, and Herb Smoke, Winchester’s traditional fiddler, along with the “North Mountain Ramblers,” a string band from Winchester.
