RAPPAHANNOCK County Sheriffs deputy Ronnie Hawkins handled a breaking and entering and grand larceny case a week or so ago, just like any other. He made an investigation, took fingerprints and maintained a “stake-out” near the house for several hours at night. But Hawkins won’t be bringing charges or making arrests; the thief was a bear.
After this experience, Ronnie Hawkins finds he has far more respect for bears than he did before. Not only are they smart, they’re choosey, he said.
