THE Virginia Department of Agriculture and Commerce (VD AC) has released the findings of a “Report on Supply of Home Canning Jar Lids in Virginia,” as directed by a Senate Resolution, passed during the last session of the General Assembly. The study was conducted from April 14-May 1 and the report prepared by VDAC’s Division of Markets.
“The findings indicate that the supply of replacement lids for home canning jars in most retail food stores in Virginia is currently less than adequate to meet the tremendous increase in demand. However, additional shipments will be arriving as the home canning season approaches. Manufacturers are making every effort to meet the increased demand.
