IN SIGNING the document, Grimvvood said, “This provides for help in carrying out a program of soil and water conservation which was developed by a local unit of government and which will remain under local direction. This is a good example of democracy at work.”
The five counties have an area of about 1,500 square miles, of which more than one-half is in farms. The population of the district is approximately 53,400. In 1969 there were 2,001 farms in the counties and 226,466 acres was in cropland.
