glanced out of her kitchen window and saw a large black snake making itself comfortable in one of the bird houses. Armed with a can of gasoline, Edith Jackson was dispatched to deal with the intruder. There was no contest. Mrs. Jackson calmly sprinkled gasoline on the snake and it died.
But a few minutes later, another, even bigger, black snake was spotted making its way down a tree limb overhanging a second bird house. Realizing gasoline wouldn’t work with a snake above her and out in the open, Mrs. Jackson grabbed a rifle.
“Edith hit that snake with only one shot,” reported Mrs. Doyle.
According to Mrs. Jackson, she has shot before but not regularly. However, it was obvious from seeing the shot distance, and the remains of thb. dead snake, that more was involved than just blind luck. It had to be skill. Standing approximately 30 yards away, Mrs. Jackson blasted the reptile’s head off on her first try.
Edith Jackson’s reputation as another Annie Oakley must have spread. There were no further snake attacks.
