Seventh District Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson has introduced a bill into Congress that, if passed, will have an impact on Rappahannock County’s apple industry.
Robinson’s bill would facilitate admission into the United States of temporary seasonal workers since, Robinson says, “a chronic problem for Virginia fruit growers has been to find a sufficient number of domestic workers willing to pick fruit at harvest time.”
Robinson maintains that “despite the desperate need which arises when a sufficient number of local workers cannot be found, regulations of the Department of Labor make it almost impossible to import workers from Jamaica or elsewhere to help with fruit-picking.” His bill would
