Rappahannock ranks 87th in percentage of .school budget needs supplied by the state. Out of the 1975-76 school budget of $1,070,539, twenty-eight per cent was state funds, 11 per cent Federal and 61 per cent local.
Although rural counties throughout the state periodically attempt to have the funding formula changed by the StatV^egislature, Rappahannock Superintendent of Schools O. A. Norton does not expect results anytime soon. According to Norton, power in the Legislature lies with urban areas that oppose any such move since it would mean a smaller percentage of state education funds for them.
