ySend out letters of intent to employ while awaiting Supervisor action on next year’s proposed salary scale for teachers and school administrators. He noted that without this authority, it would be necessary to call the Board into session for consideration of each new person to be hired.
“I recall that you were given the authority, to go ahead and hire,” said Board member Paul Nichols.
Board member Alan Stokes maintained that he remembered Norton agreeing to give the Board members an opportunity to consider and comment on applications if the time involved didn’t exceed a week.
Norton acknowledged that he may have agreed to the procedure, provided it could be accomplished in a week’s time, but had decided later that the practice t was unworkable. ..
Masterson repeated that the suggestion was not his and that he could see points on both sides of the argument. He added that he had only brought the matter up “to clarify the record.”
Mrs. Massie interjected that she had asked the question on hobbies and participation in community activities because she thought by finding out “some of the things they’re interested in; you find out how liberal a person is.”
